At # 3 – the prize for the most inaccurate tape measure

The planning proposal involved cramming 2 large executive sized houses into a small plot that would have been out of character for the area.
Within the planning application the developer submitted what appeared to be a professionally produced local survey. The surveyor’s report provided accurate measurements (to the cm) of various local house widths and the house separation. It evidenced that the proposed house widths and spacing was representative of the area with several local examples of larger house widths, and closer house spacing in the immediate area. So this proposal was clearly not out of character.
The survey report was very credible until one of the neighbours checked several of the stated measurements with his own tape measure and found the survey report to be very inaccurate. Somehow the professional surveyor had always over stated the width of the existing houses and understated their separation.
A few days later the neighbour had an opportunity to ask the developer about the survey report and why the measurements were so inaccurate? The developer confessed that he had done the measurements himself and it was not meant to be accurate. A deserved winner.
